Men's Connect

Connecting men into a community where they can help equip each other to become the real men this world and God needs.

Whether it's a Saturday morning breakfast, enjoying God's creation, barbecue, movie, or our annual retreat, you're going to get social with substance!

We have a great time while talking honestly about life in a spirit of truth and an atmosphere of brotherliness. Getting together, being real, and strengthening one another, that's Men's Connect. "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17).

Beware of cheap substitutes!

Pismo Beach, CA

We stayed at an awesome beach house in Pismo Beach, hanging out, playing pool, cooking some great food together, watching some inspiring movies, and discussing our vision, dream, and goals for 2018 to move us towards achieving that dream.

It was a time to invest in ourselves and each other.

Annual Church Family BBQ

Hosted by the Men's Connect

Mountain Meadows Park Pavilion

Sunday, August 20, 2017

We held our annual church barbecue at Mountain Meadows Park Pavilion, the weather was perfect, and we had an awesome time to be together as a church family grillin' and chillin' at the park, and playing softball!

The Men's Connect hosts this annual event each year as a way to serve the larger church and take the lead when it comes to family.

Men's Hike - Mishe Mokwa, Santa Monica Mountains

Saturday, May 13

We had an awesome, invigorating hike in the Santa Monica Mountains with spectacular mountain and Pacific Ocean views. The Mishe Mokwa trail is a moderate difficulty, 5.8 mile loop with approximately 1600 feet elevation gain and is one of the most highly rated hikes in Ventura County.

Men's Breakfast

Saturday, March 11

We had an awesome spread of heavy duty breakfast fare - eggs, bacon, sausages, scalloped potatoes, "carne con chili", salsa, and more.

Ray Agnew, former NFL defensive tackle for the Patriots, NY Giants, and Rams, now a scout for the Rams, was our guest speaker and drove home on a very relevant topic: isolation - what men naturally drift towards when they're not intentionally engaging in god-centered relationships. And when we are isolated, we're easy kill.

Join us for our next Men's Breakfast and expect great things!

Men's Movie/Breakfast

Saturday, February 11

Mixing it up, we had a continental breakfast and watched the movie 'A Story Worth Living.' It's a movie about story - the story of our own lives and how that fits into the epic story of God's redemption.

Men's Breakfast

October 8

Wrapping up our walk through the armor of God, we talked about "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:17). Interestingly this sword is the Spirit's weapon that we are supposed to "take up." If one were to use a fellow soldier's weapon that we were unfamiliar with, we'd want to have them show us how to use it correctly.

The same goes for the word of God. The Holy Spirit is the One who speaks to us in the circumstances of our lives with scripture in order to show us what parts of God's word we need to think about and apply to our lives.

Jesus said in John 14:26, "But when the Father sends the Helper as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you." RE-mind suggests that we already have His word in our mind and the Spirit is bringing it to mind again (RE = again).

So we can't expect the Spirit to speak scripture to us in a situation unless we've previously "taken" it in (reading the Bible)!

So we read the Bible regularly to take up the sword and then discern the Spirit speaking scripture to us. Whether God's word quietly speak to us or we speak it to others, it is a powerful weapon: "…My word …will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire…" Isaiah 55:11

Men's Breakfast

June 18, 2016

This Men's Breakfast we had a change of venue, menu, and purview. With our new tented patio, we hauled out some old cooking gear, fired it up and cooked up an awesome breakfast spread: Eggs, bacon, hash browns, chorizo, menudo, beans, tortillas, oatmeal, pastries, bagels, coffee, OJ.

Our message was a continuation of our discussion of the Armor of God from Ephesians 6:10-20. This time we talked about the shield of faith - not just holding up our own shield but locking shields with one another to form a stronger defensive unit. Translating this into something practical, we were challenged to note down an activity we ourselves like to do, invite a few guys, then go do it! This brings guys together but how do you 'lock shields'? Initiate honest heart-level conversation by asking some non-intrusive personal questions and take the lead by sharing honestly about your own life. The rest flows from here.

Santa Paula Punch Bowls Hike

May 14, 2016

Seven of us went on an amazing hike to the Santa Paula Punch Bowls. We started with breakfast at Michael D's Cafe in Moorpark and hit the trail after a 45-minute drive out to Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula. Most of the way was easy-going along the stream bed with some steep gradients, clambering over boulders, and some great vistas along the way. 3.5 miles in we finally arrived at the Punch Bowls, a series of stepped pools hewn out of the rock by centuries of erosion. It was a rewarding destination to reach, eat lunch, and cool off our feet! The weather was perfect for a great day out in the wilderness together.

MB2 Kart Racing / Breakfast

February 13, 2016

We drove like we always wanted to! It was fast, competitive, and fun. We brought in breakfast and had a great time racing, hanging out, and finished with a challenge that since we have a big group of guys surrounding us that are trying to live godly lives, to "run with endurance the race that's marked out for us." (Hebrews 12:1).
